The Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved in its last Governing Council session on December 16, the definitive resolution of competitive grants to support projects of non-profit entities that carry out actions aimed at fulfilling the objectives of the Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve.
Under this call, seven entities will receive different amounts, reaching a total allocated sum of 146,730.00 euros, with a maximum income per beneficiary of 30,000 euros based on the score obtained. A total of twenty associations applied for the process, thirteen of which were excluded as the planned budget was exhausted.
The projects that have benefited are Sowing Biodiversity: Agroecological Dynamization and Citizen Participation in the Biosphere Reserve of Lanzarote, by the association Participas; Seeds for Education, Dissemination, Conservation and Research of the Native and Endemic Flora of the Biosphere Reserve of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, by the association Arrecife Natura.
Also Community Gardens for Sustainability, from the permaculture development association, Permaterra; Regenerating Lanzarote and La Graciosa, from the agricultural cooperative Reflota; Cetaceans and Biosphere, towards a sustainable model of tourist observation of cetaceans in Lanzarote Project (BIOSCET I), from the Society for the Study of Cetaceans of the Canary Islands (SECAC);
In addition, they received a grant for **Chingafa: Environmental, Economic, and Social Regeneration**, aimed at recovering degraded agricultural land, promoting agroecological farming, and strengthening community cohesion through the active inclusion of supervised and formerly supervised youth and individuals at risk or in social exclusion, from the cultural and social association Trib-Arte, and for **Environmental Underwater Study and Interpretation of the Coast of Mala**, Lanzarote, from the Panthalassa Association for the dissemination and research of the marine environment
The counselor of the Biosphere Reserve of Lanzarote, Samuel Martín, recalls that the approval this year of definitive competitive bidding rules will allow for the streamlining of procedures and the calling and resolution of subsidies corresponding to 2026 in the first half of the fiscal year, "with new opportunities for associations that have been left out on this occasion".
