The Business Confederation of Lanzarote (CEL), through its president, Beatriz Salazar, expresses its "solidarity and support for the businesses, self-employed, workers, and citizens of Ceuta in the face of the extraordinary situation the city is going through and which is affecting its security, coexistence, and economic activity".
The business organization considers it a priority that "Ceuta recovers normality, security, and confidence as soon as possible, essential conditions for businesses to maintain their activity, preserve employment, and continue contributing to the economic and social development of the city".
"Faced with an exceptional situation, the response must also be up to the circumstances," it insists in a press release. Therefore, the Business Confederation of Lanzarote calls for "agile, effective measures with minimal bureaucratic burden," especially aimed at businesses and the self-employed who may be suffering the consequences of this situation.
Orderly and safe migration, and a firm response to exceptional situations
The Business Confederation of Lanzarote advocates for "regular, orderly, and safe migration, developed within legal channels and compatible with humanitarian aid and respect for human dignity".
At the same time, it considers that extraordinary migratory situations require extraordinary responses, with sufficient resources, coordination between administrations, and effective measures to guarantee security, coexistence, and the normal functioning of services and economic activity.
The president of the Business Confederation of Lanzarote, Beatriz Salazar, points out that "from Lanzarote we know what it means to be a border territory and to be on the front line. No territory should face the consequences of an extraordinary situation alone".
"Humanitarian aid and security must go hand in hand, and when circumstances require it, administrations must act with speed, coordination, and the necessary resources to restore normality and protect people and the productive sector," she adds.
Protecting businesses is protecting employment
The Business Confederation of Lanzarote considers that protecting businesses and the self-employed also means protecting employment, families, and the economy of Ceuta.
Therefore, it conveys its support to the Ceuta business organizations and demands that the necessary support measures be adopted with the utmost urgency, preventing a conjunctural situation from becoming a structural problem of business closures, indebtedness, and job destruction.
"Ceuta needs to recover tranquility, security, and confidence. And for that, it needs the commitment and response of all administrations," states the president.
The Lanzarote Business Confederation considers that security, coexistence, and economic activity must be at the center of the institutional response and that solidarity between territories must translate into resources, means, and concrete solutions.
“Recovering normality in Ceuta also means protecting its citizens, its businesses, and its workers,” concludes Beatriz Salazar.
