The Arrecife City Council celebrates that several businesses, ten on Calle Real, have responded to the call of Mayor Yonathan de León to open last Sunday on the occasion of the arrival of two large cruise ships, with 9,000 tourists.
De León, positively valued this decision of the city's small businesses to open on Sundays to coincide with cruise ship stopovers in Arrecife.
The city council informs that ten commercial establishments on Calle Real opened this Sunday to offer "thousands of tourists, fashion products and design items, perfumery, cosmetics, souvenirs, gourmet products, footwear and accessories, among others".
Since 2019, by agreement of the Government of the Canary Islands, the entire municipality of Arrecife has approved the declaration of area of great tourist affluence, which represents the liberation of commercial hours to all businesses in the capital. The order was published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands on March 12, 2019.
The two large cruise ships that docked this Sunday in Arrecife are the MSC Virtuosa and the Ventura, with 9,000 passengers between them, traveling to ports on the peninsula.
Yonathan de León continues to "encourage small businesses and the hospitality sector to arbitrate their next Sunday openings considering these cruise stopovers on Sunday, which will contribute to the increase of those revenues".
The Councilor for Commerce and Tourism, Eli Merino, reported that up to November a total of ten cruise ships will arrive with stopovers on Sunday.
Eli Merino recalls that these upcoming cruise visits are already known, and will allow small businesses and the hospitality sector to plan their Sunday openings in advance.
According to the Arrecife Commerce Area, "several fashion franchises and businesses dedicated to perfumery will open new premises in the coming weeks on Calle Real, or surrounding areas, with the arrival of the new cruise season that takes place between autumn and winter in the ports of the Canary Islands".
