Aid of up to 100% for new research infrastructures in the Canary Islands

They will prioritize key sectors such as digital and sustainable tourism, health and wellness, the blue economy, astrophysics, space and aeronautics, as well as emerging industries such as microelectronics and semiconductors.

The Ministry of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands has approved a new call for grants aimed at research infrastructures and scientific-technical equipment, endowed with 2 million euros and co-financed by 85% by the FEDER Canary Islands Program 2021-2027.

This initiative will allow to advance in the modernization of the scientific system of the archipelago and strengthen its positioning in strategic areas of innovation.

“This call is a clear commitment to knowledge as an engine of development”, affirmed counselor Migdalia Machín, who underlined that “we are investing in infrastructures that generate opportunities, attract talent and position the Canary Islands in strategic areas of innovation”.

Additionally, he highlighted the scope of the measure by pointing out that “we finance up to 100% of the projects, which allows our universities and research centers to make a qualitative leap in their scientific and technological capabilities”.

In this vein, he insisted on the objective of the regional Executive to strengthen the R&D&i system, highlighting that “we want to consolidate a stronger innovative ecosystem, capable of attracting talent and positioning the Canary Islands as a benchmark in innovation”.

The call, managed by the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), is aimed at the main agents of the Canary R&D&i system, such as public universities, research organizations, technology centers and science parks, with the aim of strengthening research capabilities and promoting knowledge transfer.

The aid will cover up to 100% of the eligible cost, with funding of between 300,000 and 1,000,000 euros per project. Priority will be given to those initiatives with a high innovative component, that promote public-private collaboration and contribute to environmental objectives and the Smart Specialization Strategy of the Canary Islands (RIS3).

The deadline for submitting applications will be 15 working days from the publication of the extract of the call in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, and will be carried out electronically through the Government's electronic headquarters.
