Agricultural producers from the municipality of Tías and the island territory can receive advice on organic farming and the improvement of agricultural practices to increase their yield at the Office of Agroecology and Rural Development, promoted by the Tías City Council, located in the sociocultural center of Mácher.
This specialized advice is carried out thanks to the hiring of an agricultural engineer after obtaining a subsidy granted by the Department of Agriculture and Livestock of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, which amounted to 40,000 euros. This aid has made it possible to execute the project called "Strengthening the primary sector, promoting employment and local development".
Within this subsidy, a part-time agricultural operator was also hired. The objective is to create a space for the promotion of organic farming and environmental awareness that serves as an agricultural beacon and support for green entrepreneurship and rural development initiatives.
Through this project, not only advice is provided but also monitoring of farms that wish to transform their production and switch to organic farming. This ensures that producers in the municipality adopt environmentally friendly practices and achieve quality products.
This initiative is connected with the participation of the Early Childhood and Primary Education Centers (CEIP) of the municipality in the Ecocomedores programs of the Canary Islands, which introduces organic, fresh, local, and seasonal foods into school menus. All of this allows organic producers to sell directly and without intermediaries at fair prices throughout the year.
