In the Canary Islands month, science takes center stage thanks to the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), which has designed a complete program to consolidate science and innovation as pillars of Canarian progress and identity.
Under this premise, ACIISI promotes a high-impact calendar that travels the archipelago fostering scientific vocations, making talents visible, and bringing cutting-edge knowledge closer to all citizens.
One of the main pillars of this celebration is the Mini Fairs of Science and Innovation, which throughout this month are deploying intense territorial activity to highlight the talent generated in the islands in the face of major global challenges.
After the Mini-fair that was held in Lanzarote and La Graciosa the tour continues through the rest of the islands. It arrives in Tenerife on May 13 and 14 with a major event on the Central Campus of the University of La Laguna. This stop will feature the participation of nearly a thousand students and will offer more than 20 demonstration stands along with a dozen master lectures on neuroscience, paleontology, or astronomy, in addition to workshops on computational thinking and space exploration.
The scientific route will continue in La Gomera on May 15, focusing its activity on technological experimentation through twelve workshops on virtual reality, 3D printing, and sustainable health solutions.
Subsequently, on May 21, La Palma will host an intensive program of 25 interactive workshops dedicated to critical disciplines such as biomedicine, waste management, and climate change adaptation. Finally, on May 26, the Mini-Fairs will arrive in Fuerteventura with an edition specialized in the aerospace sector at the Technology Park, where students will lead their own projects under the slogan "we learn science by doing science".
In addition to the Mini-Fairs, the ACIISI promotes throughout the month of May about thirty workshops through the CODECAN program in secondary, baccalaureate, and vocational training educational centers. This initiative seeks to develop digital competencies and technological skills in areas such as artificial intelligence, 3D design, video game creation, and immersive photography. Centers such as IES Santa Ana, IES Alonso Quesada, CEO Bethencourt and Molina, or IFPA Tacoronte will participate in these training sessions that ensure the arrival of innovation and specialization in ICT directly into classrooms.
The outreach actions are completed with the support of the Pint of Science festival in Gran Canaria and Tenerife during May 18, 19, and 20, an initiative that takes research out of laboratories to share it in a relaxed environment, bars.
All these initiatives acquire special relevance this year by integrating pedagogical content about the Total Solar Eclipse of August 2026, reaffirming the role of the Canary Islands as an exceptional platform for space observation and planetary science.
One month to celebrate that ‘We are Heritage of the Canary Islands’
This planning is part of the programming for the Month of the Canary Islands which includes more than 110 activities in all the Islands, under the slogan ‘We are Heritage of the Canary Islands’.
The initiative to extend the celebration of Canary Islands Day to a whole month is an invitation to recognize, share, and preserve that which unites us as a people. Throughout several weeks, a space will be created to bring Canary Islands traditions, history, and identity closer to all citizens, ensuring that this common legacy reaches every corner and, even, beyond our territory.
All programming is available on the website of the Government of the Canary Islands, as well as on the social networks of the Presidency of the Government and of the different areas responsible for the organization of each activity, where the information is updated daily.
