The Canary Islands car rental company CICAR is participating once again in the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) 2026, which is being held at IFEMA (Madrid) until January 25th. The company reaffirms its commitment to the cultural and natural values of the Canary Islands and to innovation in the traveler experience, while the Spanish tourism sector pays tribute to the victims of the recent train accident in Adamuz (Córdoba).
In this edition, marked by an atmosphere of deep respect and solidarity following the railway tragedy that has claimed the lives of dozens of people and led to official mourning in Spain, as well as the cancellation of institutional agendas and events by several participating delegations, FITUR moves forward with the conviction of driving the recovery and future of tourism.
As has become customary, the top regional authorities visited the CICAR stand, a delegation led by the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, accompanied by the Vice President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, and the Minister of Tourism, Jéssica de León, where they were received by the CEO of CICAR, Mamerto Cabrera, and other executives from the Cabrera Medina group
Innovation and environmental commitment
CICAR launched its new booking app at FITUR 2025, available on the Apple Store and Google Play, designed to simplify the vehicle rental process and enhance the experience for its regular customers and new visitors. This digital tool reinforces the company's commitment to accompanying travelers from trip planning to their stay in the Canary Islands.
In addition, the company continues to promote initiatives such as the Canary Islands Audio Guide, created in 2011 and updated annually, which offers content in several languages to enrich the tour of the different islands, disseminating cultural, natural, and local heritage, while encouraging the consumption of local products and sustainable tourism practices
During the opening day, CICAR's CEO, Mamerto Cabrera, highlighted the company's role "not only as a provider of mobility services, but also as an ambassador of the island values that make up the unique character of the Canary Islands destination".
Expectations and challenges for tourism in the Canary Islands in 2026
The Canary Islands tourism sector arrives at FITUR with solid prospects for 2026. Forecasts point to more moderate growth compared to previous boom years, with expectations of an increase in visitor numbers and a consolidation of the international offering.
Specialized reports indicate that, by the end of 2025, the Canary Islands could have received around 18.6 million tourists, with a significant economic impact and a turnover of approximately 22.7 billion euros, consolidating its role as a regional economic engine.
A sector united in respect and memory
The tragedy that occurred in Córdoba has permeated the atmosphere at FITUR 2026. During the opening of the fair, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the victims of the railway accident in Adamuz, a gesture that has been supported by organizers and participants of this global tourism forum.
CICAR, like other companies in the sector, has expressed its deep regret over the events, reaffirming its commitment to collective well-being and to tourism that, beyond numbers, values safety, solidarity, and respect between destinations and visitors
