Arrecife will celebrate Canary Islands Day with the sea, flavor, and music at the Traditional Market

This Saturday, gastronomic tastings, popular millo broth, a gastronomic route through the historic center, and performances by Los Coquillos and the Son del Norte band will be offered.

The Arrecife City Council, led by Mayor Yonathan de León, promotes this weekend, organizes this weekend a new Canarian dynamization at the Traditional Market in the renovated Plaza de Las Palmas, within the actions to support the consumption of local products and the commitment to the Lanzarote primary sector.

Through the Department of Commerce, led by the PP spokesperson councilwoman Eli Merino, this Saturday, May 30, coinciding with Canaries Day, the event at the traditional market of the action "Entre Sabor y Mar Arrecife", a gastronomic, cultural and musical proposal that will turn, once again, the historic center of the capital of Lanzarote into a great meeting space around local produce, the sea, tradition and live music with groups with island identity.

The initiative, promoted by the Municipal Government, through the Department of Commerce, is part of the actions to relaunch this traditional market, which will soon be joined by La Recova as a food market, where the strategy of Mayor Yonathan de León and councilwoman Eli Merino, aims to highlight Arrecife's historical link with the sea and its fishing identity through products from the countryside and the coast.

For this Saturday, May 30 action, which will be joined by others in the coming weeks, and which started this May, attendees will be able to see the preparation of the Canarian patudo, one of the main protagonists of the day and a species closely linked to the history of the port of Arrecife and the gastronomic heritage of Lanzarote.

During the morning, Plaza de Las Palmas will host a complete experience around local produce and the sea, starting with the arrival of the Canarian patudo and its subsequent live ronqueo, allowing the public to get to know the traditional butchering process up close, its gastronomic use, and the cultural value it represents within local cuisine.

The day will continue with various tastings prepared by restaurant professionals, with proposals where local produce will be the protagonist, culminating with a popular millo broth open to the public.

 

Gastronomic route through the center of Arrecife

In addition, “Entre Sabor y Mar Arrecife” will extend through different points of the historic center via a gastronomic route, in which various establishments will offer special proposals made with local produce and nods to Canarian culinary tradition. This route will allow visitors to tour Arrecife through flavor, connecting gastronomy, restoration, local commerce, and the city in an experience open to the public that will boost activity throughout the day.

From the afternoon, the event will continue with an extensive live music program that will fill the center of Arrecife with atmosphere and turn the capital into a meeting point between gastronomy, culture, and leisure.

 

Musical performances by Los Coquillos and Parranda Son del Norte

The musical lineup will feature performances by Son del Norte, Latin Dúo, Los Coquillos, Kódigo 4, and a closing set by Maxi Ferrer, accompanying the day from noon until night.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has highlighted that “Arrecife has a historical relationship with the sea that is part of our identity as a city. ‘Entre Sabor y Mar’ precisely represents that connection between tradition, local produce, and coexistence, turning our public spaces into vibrant places that generate activity, dynamism, and opportunities for our commercial, hospitality, and enogastronomic sectors, in addition to this dynamism coinciding with May 30th, our Land Day.

For her part, the councilor for Commerce, Eli Merino, has pointed out that “this day is designed to enjoy Arrecife through all the senses. From our gastronomy and our local produce to music, the gastronomic route, and the atmosphere that will be experienced throughout the day in the city center. It is an invitation to rediscover Arrecife through its essence, where the commercial, hospitality, and gastronomic offerings are among the attractions sought by citizens and visitors alike.”

“Entre Sabor y Mar Arrecife” is part of the “¡Qué bien me sabe Arrecife!” campaign, promoted by the Arrecife City Council through the Department of Commerce, financed by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, and with the collaboration of the Centers of Art, Culture, and Tourism.

Through this planned dynamization, the capital reinforces its positioning as a gastronomic reference linked to local produce, the sea, and its culinary identity, highlighting the work of producers, restaurateurs, businesses, and professionals who are part of the economic and gastronomic fabric of the municipality. A commitment to making zero-kilometer produce visible, boosting local consumption, and continuing to project the gastronomic richness of Arrecife and Lanzarote from its origin, its tradition, and its flavor.
