Vox has registered a non-binding proposal in the Parliament of the Canary Islands to implement "national priority," with the aim of guaranteeing that Spaniards have preference in accessing social benefits, housing, and public services.
The initiative warns of the "deep crisis" that the welfare state is going through and denounces that mass immigration "has strained public services to unsustainable extremes," as Vox stated this Friday in a statement.
Likewise, the party points out that the policies promoted by the Government are aggravating this situation, while criticizing that "it is unacceptable that people who have entered the national territory outside the law are subsequently rewarded through regularization processes."
The non-binding proposal registered includes, among other measures, establishing national priority in access to all social benefits, public services, and housing programs, and guaranteeing that non-contributory benefits and pensions are reserved for Spaniards.
It also calls for the repeal of the Royal Decree regulating access to public healthcare for undocumented foreigners, while requesting to "put an end in this way" to the mass regularization process of immigrants who are in Spain illegally.
It also demands that measures be promoted to guarantee the sustainability of the healthcare system by limiting access except in cases of urgent, immediate, and vital or emergency healthcare.
Vox argues that "the preference of nationals in accessing public benefits is not only legitimate but responds to an elementary principle of political responsibility."
Therefore, it emphasizes that "public resources must be allocated first and foremost to those who sustain and make up the national community itself," and calls for a change in current policies to guarantee the sustainability of the welfare state.
