The Parliament of the Canary Islands hosted this Thursday the ceremony for the delivery of the Canarian flag to the five students from the archipelago selected to participate this summer in the Quetzal Route 2026, one of the most prestigious cultural and educational expeditions in the Hispanic sphere.

The young people, fourth-year ESO students from Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and La Palma, have been chosen for having some of the best academic records in the country, in addition to excelling in their artistic and language training.

During the ceremony, the expedition members received the Canarian ensign from the President of the Chamber, Astrid Pérez. The flag will accompany them in July throughout this cultural adventure, in which they will live with students from different territories while touring settings linked to Spanish history and heritage.

This year's edition is titled “In the Footsteps of Urraca the Reckless, 900 Years of the Kingdom of Galicia,” an itinerary that will allow participants to delve into the medieval history of Spain and visit some of the most emblematic sites of the ancient Kingdom of Galicia.

Astrid Pérez highlighted the pride it represents for the archipelago to have young people who embody academic excellence, effort, and talent of Canarian youth in an international project of educational and cultural reference.
