The Civil Guard of the Las Palmas Command, in coordination with the Regional Command of the Royal Gendarmerie of Laâyoune, carried out joint patrols, thus strengthening the growing collaboration between the two institutions in matters of security and border control.

The island director of Lanzarote, Pedro Viera, welcomed a delegation of Moroccan gendarmes at the headquarters of the Island Directorate of the General State Administration on the island.

The planning was based on the intelligence available and shared between these two security forces, and in particular with regard to the activities and presence of criminal networks dedicated to facilitating irregular migration, possible departures of boats from Morocco, organized crime around immigration, facilitators of means and connections between networks established both in Spain and Morocco. A fundamental aspect of this strategy will be the concentration of efforts in key areas of embarkation and disembarkation.

This measure aims to deter networks dedicated to the illicit trafficking of people, thus protecting the lives of those who are tempted to undertake dangerous sea voyages. The ultimate goal of this initiative is to contribute to combating operations that promote irregular migration from Morocco. These criminal activities facilitate the transit of undocumented people to the Canary Islands via the Atlantic Ocean.

This reinforced collaboration between Spain and Morocco is a significant step towards more effective and humane migration management, which seeks to protect both the security of borders and the lives of migrants.
