The Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) registered during the morning of this Thursday an earthquake between Tenerife and Gran Canaria of magnitude 4.1 mbLg, which has been felt by the population.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to IGN sensors, and was felt at 12:26 in different municipalities of both islands with a maximum intensity of III-IV, IGN sources have detailed to EFE, who specify that, in principle, this episode has nothing to do with the seismic swarms in Las Cañadas del Teide.
The earthquake zone is known as "Volcán de Enmedio", halfway between the capital islands, where events of this type frequently occur.
In fact, in that same area the earthquake of greatest magnitude of recent years in the Canary Islands was registered, one of 4.2 in 2019; in 2022 and 2023 two earthquakes of magnitude 3.7 were registered, and in 2024, one of 3.6.
For the moment, the IGN has received the report that this last earthquake has been felt in Arico, La Laguna, Santa Cruz, Arafo, Los Realejos, Güímar, La Matanza, Candelaria, La Orotava, La Esperanza, El Rosario, Tacoronte, Arona, Granadilla and Santa Úrsula, in Tenerife; and in Gáldar, Agaete, La Aldea, Vega de San Mateo and Valsequillo, in Gran Canaria.
Sources from 112 consulted by EFE have detailed that multiple calls have been received without it currently being recorded that there have been incidents.
