The visit of Pope Leo XIV to Spain takes shape in the ecclesiastical calendar. As reported by RTVE, the archbishop of Tarragona, Joan Planellas, has placed the trip in the first fortnight of June 2026, specifically between the 6th and 12th. Although the Holy See has not yet made the official confirmation public, the Spanish Church is already considering that window to organize events.

The program would include stops in Madrid and Barcelona between June 6 and 10, before concluding on the 11th and 12th in the Canary Islands. Precisely, the closing of the trip in the archipelago would aim to learn firsthand about the migratory reality, an issue of special social and pastoral sensitivity.

One of the central moments would be June 10 at the Sagrada Familia, where the centenary of Antoni Gaudí's death and the inauguration of the Tower of Jesus Christ will be commemorated. From the basilica, they consider the Pontiff's presence at that event "very probable," although everything remains pending final approval from Rome. Vatican sources indicate that, despite the advanced planning, the Secretariat of State could introduce changes or even move the visit to another date, such as October.

On the other hand, the Spanish Episcopal Conference has encouraged the faithful, foundations, and companies to collaborate financially to cover the trip, recalling that it “does not receive state funding”. Through the website conelpapa.es, the Church invites donations to make possible a visit that, if confirmed, will mark one of the major ecclesial events of 2026 in Spain.
