The General Directorate of the Merchant Marine, through the control centers of Maritime Rescue, has established a "constant monitoring" of the nuclear-powered vessel 'Sevmorput Cs: UHBY' on its journey in the vicinity of the Spanish maritime zones.
In this sense, it explained that upon learning of the passage of the ship, which has a breakdown, through Canary waters, after a direct communication with the Russian ship from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center, it formally requested the captain to communicate in writing regarding the situation of the ship from a technical-nautical point of view, that is, maritime safety, as well as whether there was any type of radiological emergency, according to Europa Press sources from the Merchant Marine.
In this regard, the captain of the ship responded, via email, that the machinery and mechanical equipment on board the ship "are functioning correctly," while assuring that currently and throughout the voyage "there has been no incident or breakdown of the nuclear equipment on board the ship."
Additionally, the captain has stated that they are waiting for "weather conditions to improve in the transit areas towards the destination point."
In any case, from the Merchant Marine, applying a "precautionary criterion," they have contacted the Nuclear Safety Council to gather their advice and collaboration if necessary.
