The Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Esther Monzón, stated this Tuesday that the Canarian Health Service has activated contingency plans to attend to the population given the calima episode affecting the archipelago.

According to the air quality index (AQI), which is based on data from the Canary Islands Air Quality Control and Surveillance Network, particles smaller than ten microns are leaving unfavorable readings in the vast majority of sensors installed in Lanzarote.

In statements to journalists, Monzón has assured that the SCS is prepared to attend to the population and has asked for caution, especially, to the most vulnerable people in the face of this type of episodes.

From the Department, the campaigns with the recommendations on how to act are being carried out on social media.

It has been recalled that vulnerable people should avoid being outdoors and use a mask when going out into the street, and that outdoor sports should not be practiced while the suspended dust continues.

The counselor has made these statements on the occasion of the press conference she has offered about the activity of the School of Health and Social Services of the Canary Islands in 2025.
