The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has registered this Wednesday a seismic series of four earthquakes in waters near the northeast of Tenerife, two of which have been of magnitude 3.6 mbLg and three mbLg. Both have been felt by the population.
This seismic movement was registered at 18:37 Canary time at a depth of 34 kilometers and was felt in La Laguna, IGN sources informed EFE. While the magnitude three one occurred at a depth of 35 kilometers.
The third was located at a similar depth, 36 kilometers, with a magnitude of 2.3, and a fourth was more superficial, at sixteen kilometers with a magnitude of 2.8.
The IGN explains that this is an area where there are usually not many seismic movements and that both due to the depth and the distance from the coast, it would in principle be associated with tectonic activity, not volcanic activity.
