The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, expressed his affection and solidarity tonight with those injured in the Adamuz (Córdoba) train accident, the victims, and their families.

"The people of the Canary Islands are with Andalusia in these difficult times. My recognition also goes to the emergency services who continue to work at the accident site," Clavijo wrote on his X social media account.

As of 7:15 AM (Canary Islands time), the victim toll in the accident stood at 39 dead and dozens injured.

The incident occurred at 7:39 PM, when an Iryo train with 317 people on board, which had departed from Malaga at 6:40 PM bound for Puerta de Atocha in Madrid, derailed its last three carriages and encroached onto the adjacent track where another Renfe train bound for Huelva was traveling, which also derailed.
