The Assembly of the European Democratic Party, EDP, which met in Florence, Italy, to establish the strategic lines for the upcoming European Elections campaign, appointed Fernando Clavijo as vice president of the Democratic Party.
This assembly, led by Sandro Gozi (Italian Democratic Party) and Andoni Ortúzar, leader of the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV), proposed the election of Fernando Clavijo Batlle, president of the Canary Islands and member of the European Committee of the Regions, as the new vice president of the European Democratic Party based in Brussels. It should be remembered that this vote was unanimously approved and represents more than 17 different European nationalities.
The European Democratic Party thus ratifies its commitment to the Canary Islands and values the "role of Fernando Clavijo at the head of the Canarian Executive", who recently launched a serious commitment to international cooperation on migration and many other proposals in defense of the Canary archipelago as a European outermost region (OR).
In this way, Clavijo joins the decision-making body of the EDP and MEPs such as Nicola Danti (Italy) or Ülrike Muller (Germany) to respond to the present and future challenges of Europe.
Electoral Alliance
Coalición Canaria (CC) and Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) will run together in the 2024 European elections to be held next June, following the agreement adopted by the National Political Council of the Canarian nationalists, on March 9.
According to the national secretary of Organization of CC, David Toledo, "the sum of the PNV allows us to join efforts so that the Canary Islands continue to have a voice." The campaign committee of the Canarian nationalists for the next European elections will be led by José Miguel Barragán as general coordinator, and David Toledo as general coordinator in the islands, both ratified by the National Political Council on March 9.
