The Government of the Canary Islands will activate from this Thursday an emergency medical service for general medicine in La Guaira to assist Canarians, their descendants, and the population affected by the double earthquake registered on June 24 in Venezuela.

This new resource is being launched through the Canarian Union of Venezuela, in La Guaira, where basic urgent healthcare will be offered, and an information and consultation service will also be set up in the decentralized office of the Government of the Canary Islands located in the same facilities. The operating hours will be from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The clinic will have medical staff and a support person responsible for guiding affected families, resolving doubts, and facilitating coordination with the Delegation of the Government of the Canary Islands in Venezuela.

The launch of this service is part of the action plan that the regional Executive is developing for the next three months, with the aim of responding to the most urgent needs detected on the ground, especially in the areas most affected by the earthquakes.

Likewise, the Government of the Canary Islands began this Wednesday the distribution of the first 200 emergency aid packages, consisting of essential food items, water, and medication. These aid packages have been made possible thanks to donations from individuals, companies, and collaborating entities, and are being channeled through the Delegation of the Government of the Canary Islands in Venezuela to affected families and individuals.

These first deliveries are in addition to the actions that will be carried out within the framework of the three-month plan on which the Government presided over by Fernando Clavijo is already working, in coordination with the Canarian Delegation in Venezuela and with Canarian entities in the country, to ensure continuity of care and adapt the response to the needs that are detected on the ground.

Two hundred food bags

Specifically, the delivery of 100 food bags is planned in affected areas of Caracas, such as El Paraíso and Catia, and another 100 in La Guaira, in areas such as Tagoao, Las Salinas, Las Tunitas, Catia La Mar, Mosquera, Macuto, Caraballeda, and Caribe.

The Director General of Emigration of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Téllez, highlighted that “at this moment the priority is to be by the side of the affected families, listen to their needs and provide a quick, coordinated and useful response”. In this regard, he stressed that the medical consultation in La Guaira “will allow us to reinforce urgent care in one of the most affected areas, not only from a health point of view, but also by offering support and guidance to those who need to know where to go and how to channel their needs”.

Téllez also valued, “the essential work that Canary Islands entities in Venezuela and the decentralized offices are carrying out, as they are the eyes, hands and voice of the Canary Islands on the ground”. As he explained, “thanks to this network, we can identify real needs, organize aid and deliver it in an orderly manner to those who need it most”.

The Director General recalled that the Delegation of the Government of the Canary Islands in Venezuela has become the reference logistics center for coordinating the reception, organization and distribution of aid. “The response we are articulating is not an isolated action, but a three-month work plan that will allow us to address the immediate emergency and support the affected families in the coming weeks,” he said.

Thanks to collaborating entities and individuals

The Government of the Canary Islands thanks the solidarity of the companies, entities and individuals who have collaborated to make this first distribution of emergency aid possible.

Among the contributions received are those from Corporación Bel; the Casa Canaria of Altagracia de Orituco, through Ysaura Rodrigues; the Centro Hispano of Villa de Cura and its board of directors; the financial entity Banco R4, Dulcinea and Argenis Hernández, as well as other anonymous collaborators who have wanted to join the solidarity response with the affected families.

A support network on the ground

The Government of the Canary Islands has reported that it "maintains permanent monitoring" of the situation in Venezuela through the Delegation of the autonomous executive in the country, Canary Islands entities and decentralized offices.

This network is making it possible to channel information, detect priority needs and organize available resources to respond to the emergency situation that many families are experiencing at this time, especially in La Guaira, Caracas and Miranda.

The Canary Executive has reiterated its commitment to the Canary community in Venezuela and to the Venezuelan people, as well as its willingness to continue coordinating new actions based on the evolution of the situation and the needs that are identified on the ground.
