The president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, received the consul of Venezuela in the Canary Islands, María Elizabeth Seijo Candamio, and the vice-consul, Marycel Pacheco Gutiérrez, at the Chamber this Tuesday in an institutional visit marked by the situation the South American country is going through after the recent earthquakes.
During the meeting, they discussed the consequences of this tragedy and the close relationship that unites the Canary Islands and Venezuela. Astrid Pérez conveyed to the consular representatives the support and solidarity of the Parliament of the Canary Islands and of Canarian society with the Venezuelan people, highlighting the deep historical, family, and cultural ties that unite both territories.
The president expressed her wish that the affected areas can recover as soon as possible and showed her closeness to all those affected by the earthquakes.
At the beginning of Tuesday's plenary session, an institutional declaration of support for the Venezuelan people was read, and after that, a minute of silence was observed as a gesture of mourning and solidarity.
