Astrid Pérez celebrates the investiture of Queen Sofía as Doctor Honoris Causa

The president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands highlights that it is a fair and deserved recognition of an exemplary career

The president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, attended this Friday the investiture ceremony of Her Majesty the Queen Emerita Doña Sofía as Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, held in the Paraninfo of the academic institution.

Astrid Pérez valued the act as "a fair and deserved recognition of an exemplary career, marked by commitment to society, culture, and knowledge," and highlighted the pride it represents for the Canary Islands that its public university grants this distinction.

The President of Parliament also underlined the emotional nature of the event and its institutional relevance, stating that "it has been a very emotional ceremony, which reflects the respect and affection that Canarian society feels for the Queen Emerita and her contribution to collective well-being".

With her presence, Astrid Pérez wanted to show the support of the Parliament of the Canary Islands for the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and for the recognition of figures who represent fundamental values for progress and social cohesion.
