The doctor of the Canarian Health Service (SCS) Carlos L.R. has acknowledged before the Las Palmas Court that he sexually abused 26 women in his office between 2010 and 2019, has lamented "deeply" the events and has consigned the 121,500 euros claimed by his victims.

In the trial held this Tuesday by the Sixth Section of the Court, and which has been seen for sentencing, the prosecutor has taken into account the contribution to compensate the victims, so he has appreciated the mitigating circumstance of reparation of the damage and has reduced the sentence that initially requested from 62 years in prison for the 26 crimes he is accused of sexual abuse, to a total of 36 years and 10 days.

The accused, who was consulting at a public center in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has admitted that he rubbed his sexual organs and subjected these patients to various touching while pretending to give them a massage and after asking them to remove part of their underwear, even asking one of them in the ear if they liked what he was doing to them, as the prosecutor related from the testimony of the complainants.

Likewise, he has also acknowledged that he abused a woman when he went to her home on one occasion to assist her mother.

The defendant was already convicted in 2020, in a final judgment, to 18 months in prison in another case for a crime against sexual freedom, relating to events committed four years earlier.

In the case being tried this Tuesday, the Public Prosecutor's Office requested sentences of three years in prison for the continued crime of sexual abuse for 10 of the victims, which it has left at two years and one day, and two years for the other 16, which it has reduced to one year in prison, as well as compensation of 75,000 euros that has already been paid.

The four accusations that appeared in the case have accepted the mitigating circumstance for the payment of the compensation they claimed and two of these have reduced the sentences they requested from three years in prison to two years and one day in prison, like the prosecutor, and the others to two years.

The defense lawyer, María Rosa Díaz Bertrana, has asked the court to impose on her client a total sentence of 18 years in prison, claiming sentences of between one year and six months of sentence, understanding that there are three mitigating circumstances, since in addition to the reparation of the damage, her client presented a psychic alteration when the events occurred and has prevented her victims from having to testify again.

The lawyer has explained that the psychic alteration suffered by the accused has been endorsed by four professionals and none of the parties has disputed it, while emphasizing that throughout his long professional career "he never had incidents" until this problem arose.

He stressed, regarding the penalty claimed by the accusations, that when the events occurred the Penal Code allowed the damage caused to be repaired with a fine.
