"Who is in charge of cleaning the Los Ajaches Natural Monument in the municipality of Yaiza?". Begoña Martínez begins her complaint with this question, assuring that the image offered by the entrance to this place in the south "is deplorable." "It is one of the most visited areas by tourists and is a natural heritage of all the inhabitants of the island. The care is everyone's responsibility, both the politicians who must ensure that it is kept clean and the visitors, who must not throw garbage in nature," she points out.
Begoña Martínez assures in her complaint to La Voz that as a consequence of the "massive constructions" in Playa Blanca "there were remains of materials around the buildings that no one collected." This is the case, for example, of a drum that has been "next to a well-known hotel" for eight years and that passers-by have decided to use as a paper bin.
According to this woman, on the other side of the building, on the border with the sea, "there are some irons 3 centimeters in diameter that protrude about 2 meters from the ground and that have been decorated with bottles to prevent someone from getting hurt." According to this neighbor, "many people who come from Las Coloradas and go to the beaches of Papagayo" go up through this area.
"I think that after more than 8 years that this hotel was finished, someone should have cleaned or demanded that the entire area be cleaned," says this neighbor, who assures that this is not an "isolated" case. "They can take a walk through many other areas of Playa Blanca and see rubble, iron and other construction materials abandoned", she says.
