A citizen of Yaiza has denounced the situation of the Playa Blanca sports center and wonders when it will open its doors.
"We have been looking forward to having a Sports Center in Playa Blanca soon for several years, it seems that after the municipal elections everything has come to nothing", he told La Voz.
The Yaiza resident has added that 20 years ago she had to watch how they built one in Yaiza, taking into account that the population of the municipality lives mostly in Playa Blanca and that was seen as "a comparative offense."
This citizen has asked those responsible to put the center into operation now. "They promised that it would also have a cultural use in a town with 16,000 inhabitants that has neither a House of Culture, nor a concert hall, nor a theater. We have no municipal swimming pool, no gym, no covered courts," he explained.
"It has been a millionaire investment that has to materialize," he revealed.
This resident of Playa Blanca, has assured that "people in the town say that they want to put it out to tender for an external company to run it, I don't know if that will be the case", in this line she continued, "I believe that the governing group with an absolute majority is unaware that it is a municipal service and, therefore, it is not going to be profitable. It has to be managed by the town hall in the same way as the Yaiza Sports Center."
The woman concluded by demanding from the Yaiza Town Hall "a place for leisure, meeting, healthy, cultural and sports activities", as well as that the launch of this space be reported soon. She also encouraged the councilors in the opposition to move "the necessary threads to pressure its opening."
