Yeray Lemes won last year with the Skoda Fabia WRC

Last year's Orvecame Isla de Lanzarote Rally was quite a spectacle on the roads of the island of volcanoes and culminated in the victory of a driver from the island, the world champion Yeray Lemes in his first participation with the Skoda Fabia WRC. Accompanied by his faithful Rogelio Peñate, with a calm pace they managed to win in the 8 timed specials and giving a lot of spectacle in the most popular points of the sections such as road crossings, where the crowd of fans was total.

This new absolute triumph of Lemes, with one of the most powerful cars ever manufactured for the World Rally Championship, reinforces his brilliant record awaiting that leap that he still has pending and that this year he will compensate with his participation in the Racc Rally of Catalonia, the WRC event in Spain.

Double satisfaction for Skoda, as Alexis Romero, also from Lanzarote, with the Octavia Kit Car remained second overall at all times, despite a puncture in the first section, in a classification impossible to improve.

More exciting was the third place on the final podium, which would be occupied by José Luis Barrios from Gran Canaria with the Subaru Impreza, also winner of group N. Barrios improved positions throughout the race and achieved that classification by only three tenths of a second and also the third place in the Provincial and first in his category.

That fourth place was for Rubén Curbelo with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, who had not lost so much time in the complicated first section due to fog and wet asphalt, the winner of the 2010 rally could have fought even more. In any case, Curbelo from Lanzarote fulfilled his objective of winning the Talleres Multimarca Enma de Promoción Trophy, which at the beginning was also uphill, as he found himself a very fast rival in Daniel Santana with the Honda Civic. The young driver from Gran Canaria came to be third overall and set a time for superior cars, finally finishing in an excellent fifth overall and winner of group T.

Good performance of the only woman, Emma Falcón, who took her VW Polo to 11th place overall and fourth in the TME Promotion Trophy. The third in this section was Francisco López with the Renault Megane, like most of his colleagues in promotion, overcoming with a high level the always difficult debut in the fast Lanzarote sections.

In Regularity Sport, the best of the classic cars was the Ford Escort of José Luis Sosa ? Juan Monzón, followed by Jorge Betencourt ? Rubén Santana (Renault 4L). Ayoze Castellano ? Casandra with the Seat 127 took the third place, with all the teams finishing.

In total, 37 of the 44 teams that took the start finished the Orvecame Isla de Lanzarote Rally, most of them retiring due to mechanical breakdowns. The most important was that of the leader of the Island Championship, David Tenorio, when the engine of his Opel Corsa broke and the mechanics subsequently caught fire, which relegated him from a well-deserved title. Spectacular was the rollover of the Starlet of Jonathan and Víctor Guillén, spectacular but without personal consequences.

Camilo in the Insular and Curbelo in the TME7, champions

With the results of Lanzarote, Camilo González ? Patricia Guillén became the new 2011 island champions with the Honda Civic Type-R, which they managed to take to the finish line despite the gear problems that it had been dragging since the beginning of the Orvecame Rally.

In the TME Promotion Trophy, Rubén Curbelo ? Samuel Vega, added enough points to maintain a leadership of a competition that finally cost them more than expected with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. While the runner-up was for Daniel Santana ? Jorge Galván, after the great race held in Lanzarote.

Sosa ?Monzón, champions in Regularity Sport

Also José Luis Sosa ? Juan Monzón became with the Ford Escort MKII the first champions of the Regularity Sport in the Provincial and Regional.

The event concluded at the time scheduled by the Las Palmas Automobile Federation and had an exemplary development, with all the teams passing through the finish arch, where they were received by the bulk of the fans and a large representation of the town halls of San Bartolomé, Tías and Tinajo, the Cabildo of Lanzarote, federative presidents and Mamerto Cabrera, CEO of the company Orvecame and the Cabrera Medina Group, sponsors of the event.
