The Yaiza City Council will allocate about 100,000 euros during this new academic year from October of this year until June 2006, to promote grassroots sports through the Municipal Sports Schools.
This new plan of activities, which will be executed through the Department of Youth and Sports chaired by Ángel Domínguez Ojeda, will allow about 1000 children residing in the municipality to enroll in one of the 12 disciplines that will be taught in the Municipal Sports Schools.
For the realization of these activities, the Yaiza City Council has signed several collaboration agreements with sports clubs on the Island to, with their monitors and specialists, instruct the students of the Sports Schools.
The acting mayor of Yaiza, Nancy Peña, and the councilor for Youth and Sports, Ángel Domínguez Ojeda, participated on Monday afternoon in the signing of these agreements that will allow, once again, the launch of the Municipal Schools of Canarian Wrestling, Sailing, Swimming, Judo, Gymnastics, Handball, Tennis, Karate, Badminton, Indoor Football, Golf and Football.
The head of Sports, Domínguez Ojeda, announced that the residents of Yaiza will have a new sports hall by the end of this year, whose works are being carried out next to the current facilities of the Yaiza Municipal Football Field. Nearly one million euros will be invested in these facilities in the works that will be carried out in three phases.
