The Villa de Teguise Rally, in its six editions, had not seen a competition for the podium places like the one experienced this Saturday on the roads of the island of Lanzarote. This, together with a large presence of public and fans, as has not been seen for some time in island motorsport, makes it a reference that will be remembered by all and an organizational success of the Manguia Motor Sport Club.
And at the top of a spectacular race day, the team of Toñín Suárez-Jorge Cedrés took a resounding victory with their Porsche 911 GT3, dominating the race from start to finish and taking the scratches of five of the six timed sections, in a demonstration of authority in this rally with three consecutive victories and returning to the lead of the Lanzarote island championship of which he is the current champion. In short, a more than deserved victory for the Bodegas Suárez team, this time without premises and with all the competition following in their footsteps.
Yeray Lemes-Rogelio Peñate with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo were second throughout the rally and were the shadow of the winners, so he could not repeat a new triumph on his island as in the past Rallye Orvecame 2021. The fast sections of Teguise are more favorable to the Porsche 911 GT and a second place with his 4x4 is already very good. As a consolation prize, they took a scratch, the one of the last timed section, reducing their disadvantage with Toñín Suárez to 10.1 seconds.
The podium was completed by another Mitsubishi driver, Aníbal Machín with Francisco Rosales on the right, completing an almost perfect rally for them and in that same position from the beginning, although his mount was unable to keep up with his teammates on the final podium, as demonstrated by the substantial difference of 1 minute and 22 seconds with respect to Lemes.
Already in fourth place was another of the Porsche 911s, in this case the debutant in the hands of Oliver Rodríguez, with David Rivero as co-driver, who were with due caution to get to know the new mount of the Lanzarote driver well, although at some point they were very close to the podium. For them it was the trophy of category 1.
Suso Lemes and Isabel Pérez (Mitsubihsi Lancer Evo), Juan Carlos de la Cruz-Aitor Cambeiro (VW Polo N5) and Julio Martínez-Pedro Viera with the third of the Porsches, were classified in that order next. Suso complained about tires that did not pick up the right temperature, Juan Carlos suffered more than one technical problem that delayed him, in addition to reaching Julio Martínez in TC1, who went off the road after the accelerator of his mount was blocked.
Oscar Curbelo and Elizabeth de la Iglesia took category 2 with the Renault Megane, while Javier Cañada-Alejandro Rodríguez took category 3 with the Peugeot 206, winning the FALP Promotion Trophy in the process. In the historic vehicle groups, Adián Pérez-Daniel Fernández with Toyota Corolla took group H90 and Alberto Pérez-Ricardo Betancort won group H5.
The test ended again at the Agroindustrial Complex of Teguise with the awards ceremony, with the presence of several councilors of the City Council of Teguise, the presidents of the federations Benito Rodríguez and Miguel Angel Domínguez, together with the president of Club Manguia Alberto Umpiérrez. All wrapped in a good atmosphere after a great day of the motor world in all aspects, which is a good omen for the great event of the S-CER with the Isla de los Volcanes at the end of this month.
