Next Saturday, April 5, true to its date with the calendar around this time, the only athletic event in Lanzarote returns, allowing you to run on all surfaces, combining them with the wildest, most pristine and attractive landscapes of the island. The fourth edition of the Ultratrail Lanzarote will cross the island from north to south, where the blue of the sea that surrounds us mixes in the eyes of the runners with the black of the jable, or the different browns of the solidified lava and sand. A scenario that will be covered by the brave runners who will dare in each of the four modalities that the event has in this new edition.
Once again, the Ultratrail Lanzarote, the name it adopts in this 2014 edition, is consolidated in the calendar of mountain events in the Canary Islands and is positioned as one of the most attractive events at a national and international level. Alberto Peláez, from Cantabria and based in Lanzarote, will be the maximum exponent to revalidate for the third consecutive year his victory in this Ultratrail Lanzarote, which he seems to know in detail.
Registrations are going at a good pace, which will close next Monday, March 31, with the most lagging athletes having the possibility of registering for the event. Those interested in registering can obtain more information on the Paleocenter website (http://www.paleocenter.es/index.php?ver=calendario_eventos&id_evento=14) and formalize the registration online through the Ticket Sport website (http://www.ticketsport.es/evento/lanzarote2014/inscripcion/selecciona-tarifa ). In addition, registrations for the Ultratrail Lanzarote can be made in person at the Tribike facilities, located at Calle José Antonio, number 114, at the exit of Arrecife.
The Ultratrail Lanzarote has four different modalities, being a mountain race open to all audiences and that adapts to the physical preparation of each of the participants.
- Ultratrail. This is the queen event, with a route of 84 kilometers and 5,336 meters of accumulated elevation gain. The start will be at 06:00 hours on Saturday from La Garita beach (Arrieta), facing an ascent to Pico de Las Nieves and with the first lights of the day descending to Famara beach. The sand tracks of the municipality of Tinajo will give way to a sea of lava through Timanfaya and continue through the vineyards of La Geria. In the final part of the race, large slopes will accumulate, passing through Papagayo and reaching Marina Rubicón (Playa Blanca), an area where the finish line will be located.
- Trail Marathon. The start of this modality will be located in Mancha Blanca, with athletes having to face a route of 42.8 kilometers and an accumulated elevation gain of 2,575 meters. At 09:30 hours on Saturday, the start of this modality is scheduled from the parking area located at the rear of the Ermita de Mancha Blanca
- Mediatrail. An ideal route to get started in the half distance with 29 kilometers and 1,320 meters of accumulated elevation gain, designed for those athletes who have been competing in mountain races for some time and who want to test their fitness. The start of this event will be located in Bodegas La Geria, with competitors starting at 10:30 am.
- Minitrail. 13.5 kilometers of route and 744 meters of accumulated elevation gain, of a modality aimed at those people who are entering this sport. A modality that can be done running, jogging or walking, being able to enjoy the trails through which the race runs. The runners will start at 11:30 am in the town of Femés.
The finish line of each of the modalities of the Ultratrail Lanzarote will be located in the facilities of the Marina Rubicón (Playa Blanca) marina. There is little left for the starting gun to be fired for an event where lovers of running and nature cannot be missing, in the wildest race in Lanzarote.
