UD Lanzarote, the team from Lanzarote that presented itself last week at La Recova in an event presided over by the mayor Yonathan de León, was crowned champion last night in Arrecife against Xerez in the LVI San Ginés Tournament 2025, the oldest summer tournament in the Canary Islands, and among the oldest in Spanish territory.
The red-and-white team faced Xerez CD in the final, in a match that was decided by penalties. With this new triumph in the capital of Lanzarote, UD Lanzarote closes three pre-season tournaments, winning all three under the new direction of coach Ángel López and his technical team.
The mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, who is away from the island these days, has conveyed his congratulations to UD Lanzarote for their triumph and has congratulated the clubs Xerez Club Deportivo, UD San Sebastián de los Reyes, and CD Tenerife “B” in men's football, and the players of the teams Orientación Marítima, Inter Playa Honda and CD Tinajo for their participation in the women's triangular in this San Ginés tournament. The mayor, who in his youth wore the UD Lanzarote shirt, recalled that in Lanzarote there is a great passion for football, and the city was clear that the celebration of this tournament was going to be very present, among the extensive sporting events for the Arrecife patron saint festivities.
The Councilor for Tourism, Commerce and Sports, Eli Merino, who has been present in all the matches, has congratulated UD Lanzarote, to whom she showed her gratitude for the great collaboration provided in the organization of this tournament, and has reinforced her commitment, together with the entire Government team, so that the San Ginés Football Tournament is present in the next editions of the San Ginés festivities.

The Arrecife City Council paid tribute yesterday to 400 athletes, with representatives from all the clubs participating in this tournament, organization, managers and technical teams, during which the trophies were awarded. A tribute where all the participating players shared a friendship dinner as the end of the tournament, which was offered in a hotel establishment in the capital of Lanzarote.
The sports program of the San Ginés festivities concluded last night with this final of the San Ginés Tournament, held in the Lanzarote Sports City, which has opened a new grass field, and closes a powerful program of sporting events that have reinforced the great success of the San Ginés Festivities, with a great success of participation and quality in all the events and acts, both sports, musical, cultural, folkloric or youth.
