The Lanzarote derby of the Men's Territorial Handball League was played on Friday night, a match that did not lack the usual ingredients of this type of high-rivalry encounters. The Titerroy Municipal Pavilion registered a good attendance, with a magnificent handball atmosphere. On the court, the young team of San José Obrero was superior to CB Zonzamas, taking the victory by a clear 32 to 22.
The first minutes of the match were marked by defensive intensity. From the defense, both teams wanted to win the match, scoring only two goals in the first seven minutes. Javi Tavío and Acoidán Martín were in charge of giving San José Obrero the first advantage on the scoreboard.
With the score at 6 to 3 at the edge of the first half, the coach of CB Zonzamas, Alexander Rivero, requested a time-out, seeing how his team was having problems overcoming the defense of the locals. After the instructions from the bench, San José Obrero increased the differences on the scoreboard, making a quick game on the court and thus overcoming the slow defensive retreat of the batateros.
San José Obrero played for many minutes of this first part with a 3:3 defense, a system that CB Zonzamas was choking on, not finding a way to generate danger on the goal defended by Asier Morillas. The locals stole easily, mounting quick counterattacks and scoring clearly. With the result of 16 to 7, the first 30 minutes of the match came to an end.
At the beginning of the second half there was a timid reaction from CB Zonzamas. The visitors achieved a partial score of 1-3 in the first minutes, although it was quickly counteracted by the game of San José Obrero. The locals continued to maintain the lead on the scoreboard, showing great intensity in their game.
The difference was around ten goals once the equator of the second half was surpassed, with no reaction from CB Zonzamas. The two coaches began to make rotations, giving minutes to the less usual players given the clear difference reflected in the electronic scoreboard of the Titerroy Municipal Pavilion.
With the result of 32 to 22, the match came to an end, with CB San José Obrero adding the second victory of the season in the Men's Territorial Handball League. Those from Titerroy lead the standings with 4 points, two points ahead of Zonzamas and Caima. In the next round, CB San José Obrero travels to Fuerteventura to face Caima.
