RORC Transatlantic Race 2024

On January 12, the waters of the Atlantic will witness the exciting start of the RORC Transatlantic Race, a prestigious 3,000-mile regatta that connects Lanzarote with the island of Granada. Organized by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) together with Calero Marinas, the Yacht Club de France and the International Maxi Association, this competition attracts the best sailors and boats in the world in its eleventh edition.

For weeks, Marina Lanzarote has received a fleet that is preparing to face this Atlantic challenge. The regatta, which evokes the rich maritime history and awakens the adventurous spirit of the participants, is an event that combines strategy, endurance and passion for the sea.

In 2022, the monohull category record was set by Comanche, skippered by Mitch Booth, with a time of 7 days, 22 hours, 1 minute and 4 seconds. This year, participants will seek to surpass this mark, facing the inclemencies of the ocean and demonstrating their ability to plan and adapt to any unforeseen event.

The week of preparation for the crossing is also a great opportunity for participants to learn about the benefits of the local culture, gastronomy and heritage, with a social program that tries to highlight these values of the island, but the organization has also worked on a program that brings this event closer and involves the citizens of Conejera and anyone who visits Lanzarote. From school visits, children's workshops, exhibitions and nautical activities, a round table with renowned local sailors, to the long-awaited departure of the spectator boat to be able to follow the departure live, for which it will be necessary to register at the following link: https://forms.gle/qfVwQf9PnM6d4W8m6.

The RORC Transatlantic Race is supported by Lanzarote Sport Destination, the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers (CACT), Arrecife Tourism and the collaboration of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife (RCNA).

This event marks the beginning of a year full of exciting competitions at the Calero Marinas facilities, followed by the J80 Canary Islands Cup in Puerto Calero, the César Manrique Trophy in Marina Lanzarote, the Minitransat in Marina La Palma, and the 44 Cup and the Rallye Iles du Soleil in the new Fuerteventura facility, Marina Jandía.
