The Departments of Equality and Youth of the Arrecife City Council wanted to publicly recognize the historic promotion of the "Panthers" - as the players of the CB San José Obrero femenino, the CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife are known - to the Guerreras Iberdrola League, the highest state category of handball, just in the year in which the emblematic club of the Titerroy neighborhood celebrates its 50th anniversary.
The emotional gesture of recognition materialized with the presentation of a commemorative plaque by the head of the Equality Area, Maite Corujo, and the Youth Councilor, Rosmen Quevedo, who attended the Lanzarote Sports City together with the Deputy Mayor of Arrecife, Echedey Eugenio, coinciding with one of the last training sessions of the season of the team that has been brilliantly directed by David Betancort.
In addition to congratulating the players for their commendable effort throughout the competition in the División de Honor Oro League, the municipal representatives conveyed their "congratulations to the technical staff and the club's board of directors, headed by its president Yomaique Martín, highlighting the essential role they have played in what will be the team's return to the handball elite".
In this sense, they described the team as an "excellent example." For Echedey Eugenio, "the promotion of the Panthers is not only a sporting success, but also a great source of collective inspiration. The commitment, effort and perseverance of these players constitute an excellent example for the society of Arrecife.
"They represent the values we want for our city: teamwork, overcoming challenges and pride of belonging," he continued. For her part, Maite Corujo stressed that "their extraordinary season demonstrates the potential reached by women's sports in our city thanks, in large part, to the important work that we have been doing from the Institutions and numerous groups to achieve an egalitarian society in all areas."
An achievement, stressed the councilor, "that encourages us to continue promoting from the City Council active policies that guarantee real opportunities for personal and professional development for women." For his part, Rosmen Quevedo, said that the players of the Club Balonmano San José Obrero "are a model for our youth and have shown us that with passion, sacrifice and perseverance you can reach the top." In this sense, the councilor stressed that "from the Youth Area of the Arrecife City Council we will continue to support sports and social projects like this that generate positive role models for future generations."
