The coast of Arrecife hosted the fifth round of the season of the Insular League of Latin Sail Barquillos in the 5-meter category. A scoring event for the Arrecife City Trophy and in which a total of eleven boats participated. The Centro Insular de Deportes Náuticos scored the first victory of the season.
The weather conditions were optimal for the practice of Latin sailing. A north wind with an intensity of 14 knots of force. The regatta field was a windward-leeward with a beacon located offshore and the other on land next to the pier point.
In the first lap the Furia II of Estanis Betancourt and the Furia of Marcial Rodríguez, shared the leading positions, followed very closely by the Isla Graciosa and the Secretos del Sur. A first lap in which the Congelados Africamar and the Briomar, were forced to retire.
The strategy was key when deciding the victory. In the second lap to the regatta field, most of the boats turned towards the west. For its part, the Centro Insular de Deportes Náuticos of Manri Rodríguez and the Secretos del Sur of Alfredo Morales, took the regatta field by the east. The two boats took command of the regatta.
In the third lap, the positions remained unchanged, with the Centro Insular de Deportes Náuticos crossing the finish line in first place. Second place went to Secretos del Sur and Isla de Lanzarote occupied the third place on the podium. At the end of the regatta, the Furia of Marcial Rodríguez filed a protest against the Isla Graciosa of Echedey Toledo, for a bad maneuver when assembling the second beacon of the course, touching it, a circumstance that is totally prohibited in the rules of sailing competitions.
After the dispute of the fifth regatta of the Insular League of Latin Sail Barquillos, the Furia II is the leader with 5 points, followed by the Secretos del Sur and third is the Centro Insular de Deportes Náuticos. The next regatta will take place on Sunday, July 11, a valid event for the Isla de Lanzarote Trophy
