The wrestlers of the island of Lanzarote did not want to miss the traditional event of every summer. The Tahíche arena once again hosted the tribute to Suso Cejas, which is part of the festivities of Santiago Apóstol and Santa Ana, which are celebrated in Tahíche these days.

Two combined teams of wrestlers were in charge of competing in the friendly fight that was held on Thursday night in the Tahíche arena. Among the wrestlers were many of the members of CL Tao, the team in which Suso Cejas played in his day.

The event was used by the Lanzarote Federation of Canarian Wrestling to present the trophies of the 2008/2009 season of the youth category. The winners of the different competitions received their trophy, as did the most outstanding youth wrestlers.

The Tao's youth players are on track for the final

The youth squad of Club Lucha Tao achieved a positive result, 10-12 against Victoria, in the first leg of the final of the Canary Islands Government Youth Regional League. Although the Tenerife team was the favorite, CL Tao put on a very intelligent fight, which allows them to have a comfortable advantage heading into the second match.

Francisco Javier Díaz, who did not go out to fight, and Juan Carlos Ventoso, who contributed three points to his team, were the two Tao wrestlers who remained standing. Andrés Carmelo Guillén and Rubén Barrios were two of the most outstanding wrestlers in the Lanzarote team.

The second leg will be played next Sunday starting at 12:30 pm in the Andrés Curbelo "Pollo de Tao" arena. The Tao youth players have a comfortable advantage and can afford to lose by one point to be crowned champions of the Canary Islands.
