Arrecife became the capital of sports and fun on Saturday night. The main streets of the city were the setting for the fourth edition of the Sport Zone Disco Night Urban Race Ciudad de Arrecife, a race that broke the record for registered participants from past editions and took place in a great atmosphere of fun and celebration. Saúl Castro from Gran Canaria and Aroa Merino from Lanzarote were the absolute winners of the fourth edition of the Sport Zone Disco Night Urban Race Ciudad de Arrecife.
At 9:00 p.m., the Sport Zone Disco Night Urban Race Ciudad de Arrecife started, with nearly a thousand people participating in the race. The starting line was located next to El Reducto beach, with participants running along the entire Avenida Marítima de Arrecife towards the Charco de San Ginés. The small changes introduced to the route were appreciated by the runners, who understood the reasons for the changes due to the construction work being carried out in Arrecife.
Saúl Castro from Gran Canaria dominated the Sport Zone Disco Night Urban Race Ciudad de Arrecife from the start, completing the first five kilometers in first position. The athlete from the Macrofit Gimnasio team maintained the lead in the second part of the race, crossing the finish line as the winner with a time of 30 minutes and 52 seconds. Julio del Val (31:09) came in second place at the finish line. The third place on the podium had to be decided in a sprint, with Francisco Cabrera and Tinguaro Quintero entering at the same time, with a time of 31 minutes and 43 seconds.
Aroa Merino was the main protagonist of the women's category, demonstrating that she is currently in great shape. The Lanzarote athlete from the Tenerife CajaCanarias club won the Sport Zone Disco Night Urban Race Ciudad de Arrecife with a time of 34 minutes and 2 seconds. The women's podium was completed with the second position of Esther Rodríguez (38:38) and the third position of Rosa Fontes (39:16).
The most crowded category was the 5-kilometer race, in which people participated who dared to complete the route for the first time, demonstrating that the Sport Zone Disco Night Urban Race Ciudad de Arrecife is a race for all audiences and levels. Lucho González was the winner of the race, crossing the finish line with a time of 15 minutes and 56 seconds. The podium was completed with the second place of Rafael Trinidad (16:13) and the third position of Jorge Torres (16:32).
Celia Romero was the winner of the 5-kilometer distance of the Sport Zone Disco Night Urban Race Ciudad de Arrecife. The athlete completed the course with a time of 19 minutes and 37 seconds. The second classified was Ana María Hernández (20:46) and the third position corresponded to Cristina Gonzalvez (21:26)
At the end of the race, a great musical show began in the Islas Canarias Park, which was enjoyed by the runners and the participants' companions. An event that concluded with the presentation of prizes to the first classified in each of the categories and in which the absolute winners of the fourth edition of the Sport Zone Disco Nigth Urban Race Ciudad de Arrecife were honored.
