Intense sports day that was experienced this Saturday in the capital of Lanzarote. Arrecife hosted the second edition of the Disco Night Urban Race 5K-10K City of Arrecife and this year it has been valid for the Canary Islands Road Championship of 5 and 10 kilometers. More than 700 athletes took the start at 9:00 p.m. and toured the entire Arrecife maritime avenue. All this surrounded by a great musical and festive atmosphere in each of the corners of Arrecife. Saúl Castro from Gran Canaria and Aroa Merino from Lanzarote were the absolute winners of the queen event of the Disco Night Urban Race 5K-10K City of Arrecife.

Saturday's day began with a Spinning Master Class and in the Fairgrounds the details were finalized to host one of the important events on the Lanzarote sports calendar. In the afternoon it was the turn for the youngest, who were able to enjoy several children's races, rewarding the participation of each of the athletes who took part in the race. And the great sensation was the crawling race, aimed at boys and girls from 0 to 3 years old. A race in which thirty children participated and which took place under the watchful eye of the parents, who were drooling to see the evolutions of the smallest of the house.

The Arrecife Fairgrounds was filled with participants, with the Batucada de los Bomberos being in charge of warming up the atmosphere. All this wrapped in a musical atmosphere, thanks to the work of the dj. At 9:00 p.m. the start was given to the second edition of the Disco Night Urban Race 5K-10K City of Arrecife, with just over 700 people taking part in one of the two events. The Disco Night Urban Race took place along the entire Arrecife maritime avenue, with several animation points along the route. Víctor Guadalupe, winner of the past edition, and who could not participate due to physical problems, was in charge of starting the race.

The runners in the 10-kilometer category had to complete two laps of the course, being dominated in the men's category by Saúl Castro. The runner from Gran Canaria, belonging to the Tenerife Athletics Club, crossed the finish line in first place and with a time of 31 minutes. The second position was for Agoney Morales from Lanzarote (ADAL Lanzarote) with a time of 32:23 and the podium was completed with the third place of Francisco Cabrera (CAI Gran Canaria).

In the women's category, Aroa Merino from Lanzarote (Globara) revalidated the triumph achieved in last year's edition. Aroa crossed the finish line with a time of 34 minutes and 30 seconds. The second place was for Ester Díez (Rioja Añares) with a time of 36:19 and third would be Sonia Prieto (CA Atletas 97).

Very fast was the 5 kilometer race, deciding in the men's category the victory in the sprint. Tinguaro Quintero from Lanzarote (ADAL Lanzarote) was the fastest on the finish line, needing a time of 15 minutes and 24 seconds to complete the 5 kilometers. The brothers Tore and Magnus Dybdahl (CA UAVA), had to settle for the second and third position, respectively.

In the women's category, Carmen Delia Luz was the winner of the 5 kilometer race, investing a time of 18 minutes and 58 seconds. Marina García from Lanzarote was the second classified (20:55) and third would be Virginia Becerra (21:21).

 

Awards Ceremony

 

At the end of the second edition of the Disco Night Urban Race 5K-10K City of Arrecife, the awards ceremony was held for each of the categories and age groups. An act that was presided over by the Councilor for Sports of the Arrecife City Council, Paca Toledo, and who was accompanied by the president of the Canary Athletics Federation, Alberto Hernández, and by representatives of the sponsors with whom the event has had.
