The San Bartolomé City Council presented this Tuesday the 'XII edition of the Emmax Playa Honda Crossing', a competition that will bring together hundreds of swimmers and that will take place on August 31, within the framework of the prestigious Canary Islands Open Water Cup.
The presentation was attended by the mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez; the Councilor for Sports of the San Bartolomé City Council, Alexis Hernández; the local swimmer and Spanish adapted swimming champion, Andrés Martín; the manager of the Emmax Restaurant, Max Muller, and the security director of the crossing, Óliver Acuña.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, highlighted during his speech the importance of “continuing to bet on this event in a municipality that has always been on the side of sports. The fact that we are already twelve years old means that we have done things well, and that Playa Honda, in addition to being an extraordinary place to walk or enjoy the beach, can also host quality sporting events.”
Along the same lines, the Councilor for Sports, Alexis Hernández, added that “being part of the Canary Islands Cup gives the event an extra quality, positioning it as one of the best crossings in the islands”, highlighting that, on this occasion, the competition has up to six different routes and modalities to include swimmers and people of all ages and levels.
In this edition, the organizers have prepared a 5,000-meter route, starting from the emblematic Puente de Las Bolas in Arrecife, to Playa del Curita in Playa Honda, valid for the Canary Islands Cup. Athletes who have an intermediate level and are looking for new challenges will have the 2,000-meter distance, starting from La Concha beach. The young people and those who are starting out in this sport will be able to participate in the 1,000-meter distance, taking a lap around the open water circuit of Playa Honda. For the little ones, the organization has prepared routes of 400, 150 and even 50 meters, including an inclusive modality to promote accessibility.
As a novelty this year, the 3x300 meter mixed relay modality has been introduced, which will require the participation of at least one woman per team. This initiative seeks to encourage female participation in the event.
The XII Emmax Playa Honda Crossing will be held on Saturday, August 31, and registrations are open at www.tripasioneventos.com. Registrations close on August 29, at 8:00 p.m., or when the number of places is completed.
