Puerto del Carmen hosts the first edition of the Lanzarote grassroots rugby tournament

The Deiland Shopping Center was the place chosen to present the first edition of the Rugby Schools Tournament in Lanzarote organized by the Lanzarote Rugby Club and which will feature the presence of 3 clubs from Tenerife, 1 from Fuerteventura and the host.

The presentation ceremony was attended by Raúl Turrión, coordinator of the Lanzarote Rugby Club; Rens Malenys, vice president of the Lanzarote club and the sports councilors of the municipalities of Tías and San Bartolomé, Kiko Aparicio and Raúl de León; Santy González being the master of ceremonies for the afternoon.

The club coordinator opened the floor, thanking those present for their attendance and explaining that it is the first time that an event of these characteristics has been held in Lanzarote, thus breaking the taboo that rugby is a violent sport, inviting fans to be present and learn more about the work that the Lanzarote team does with grassroots teams.

The vice president of the club spoke more about the tournament itself, thanking the sponsors who have bet on them to be able to celebrate it. Rens explained that the tournament will be held on Saturday, April 6 from 12:00 to 18:00 and will be attended by the Mahoh Rugby Club of Fuerteventura, Ñandú Rugby Club of Costa Adeje in Tenerife, Boatmen Rugby Club of El Médano in Tenerife, La Laguna Galaxy Rugby of Tenerife and the organizing club of the event, the Lanzarote Rugby Club.

After them, the representatives of the municipalities of San Bartolomé and Tías took their turn. Raúl de León, sports councilor of San Bartolomé, congratulated the resident team in Playa Honda for the work they do with the base and thanked the Tías city council for hosting the event, due to the impossibility of using the playing field of San Bartolomé or Playa Honda, moving to Puerto del Carmen.

For his part, Kiko Aparicio, sports councilor of Tías, thanked them for thinking of Puerto del Carmen to play the event, hoping that the fans in the tourist area who love the noble sport of rugby will attend an event where the protagonists will be the youngest players in the archipelago.
