Puerto Calero hosts the largest J80 fleet regatta in Spain

During the next days, December 17th and 18th, 2005, the inaugural regatta of the largest J80 fleet in Spain will take place, which is concentrated in Puerto Calero, Lanzarote

There are more than 35 J80 boats concentrated in Lanzarote, all of them in Puerto Calero. This fleet, despite having already participated in major sporting events, such as the Puerto Calero Match Race Trophy, officially begins its regatta calendar this weekend.

The regatta starts on Saturday at 15:00.

The Canarian sailors, who have been training hard for several weeks, will face each other in a meeting that will mark the beginning of an exciting season.

The great attraction of a regatta of these characteristics is that, being between boats of the same class, the classifications will be in real time and therefore the attraction and expectation of the event increases considerably. In this way, there will be a championship consisting of 4 regattas, and the champion will be the one who makes the best time in them.

According to Alfredo Morales, Technical Director of the regatta, this class of boats was chosen because it is not an extreme boat, it is a cruiser but with the possibility of doing light sailing. Furthermore, it is a fairly strong boat, perfect for facing the winds of Lanzarote.

On Saturday, December 17, at 3:00 p.m., the regatta will begin, which, depending on the options offered by the wind, may be held in waters off Puerto Calero, or more in the direction of Guacimeta.

At night there will be a party-barbecue in honor of the sailors, who will be able to enjoy a pleasant time on the Las Carpas terrace in Puerto Calero.

On Sunday, December 18, after the outcome of the regatta, the awards ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. on the Las Carpas terrace, where a large paella will be offered for the enjoyment of all participants. The meals offered are courtesy of the Amura restaurant.
