With a total of 47 registered boats, Puerto Calero celebrates today the XXXII edition of the Puerto Calero Marlin Cup, the most important deep-sea fishing tournament in the Canary Islands and the only one in Spain that qualifies for the World Championship in Costa Rica.
This exclusive nature has turned the event into an international benchmark, attracting athletes and fans from all over the country who find in the waters of Lanzarote a privileged setting for this practice.
The event begins this Thursday with the traditional meeting of skippers at 8:00 p.m. in Puerto Calero, and will continue with two intense days of fishing on Friday and Saturday, when the boats will set sail at 9:00 a.m. The joint departure of the 47 units promises, once again, a spectacular image for both participants and the attending public. The closing will be at the Amura restaurant, with the awards dinner and subsequent party inspired by old Havana.
The competition maintains its commitment to sustainability and respect for the marine environment, applying catch and release rules that guarantee the conservation of species such as the blue marlin, the undisputed star of the tournament.
The event is possible thanks to institutional and business support, with sponsorship from the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Yaiza City Council from its Sports area, as well as private companies such as Cicar, Banco Santander, Aon, Grupo Eresa, Salitre, Grupo Tiagua and Maderas Marcial González.
The Puerto Calero Marlin Cup is not only a top-level sporting challenge, but also an engine for economic and tourist revitalization, projecting Lanzarote as a leading nautical destination in Europe.
