Nayra Armas from Lanzarote leads the absolute women's category of paddle tennis in the Canary Islands

Nayra Armas from Arrecife currently leads the absolute women's category of paddle tennis in the Canary Islands. "I think it's the first time that a Lanzarote native has led the ranking", says the athlete, who is "very happy" about it.

Armas is 39 years old and started playing paddle tennis 12 years ago, when "very few people" played this sport, which, however, "has had a boom in recent years". "I came from tennis, then I left it a bit for a season, but I seriously took it up again two years ago", explains the Lanzarote native.

In addition to currently leading the absolute women's category of paddle tennis in the Canary Islands, Nayra Armas has been part of the Canary Islands team for the last two years, with which she hopes to repeat again and face the Spanish Championship in October, which, according to her, will be held in Ciudad Real.

"I still don't know if I will be selected", says Nayra Armas, who, however, will have her position secured if she continues to lead the ranking. And, according to her, the first four classified are automatically selected.

Nayra Armas wanted to highlight "the good work" of the Canary Islands Paddle Tennis Federation in recent years, as the tournaments in the archipelago have been "increased" and "more and more athletes are federated". In this sense, she has also highlighted "the good level" of paddle tennis in the Canary Islands, something that she affirms "helps not to stagnate".
