Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Santana, 2023 National Award from the Royal Spanish Handball Federation

The coach of the Club Balonmano Puerto del Carmen, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Santana, will receive the bronze medal and badge in the category of coaches and officials as the culmination of a career that still has many years to live and that began in 1974, at the age of ten, as a player.

A man who has been involved in the club of the Tiñosera bees all his life and next week will be in charge of the children's team, together with Miguel Ángel Lemes, playing in the Municipal de Tías the Final Phase of the Spanish Children's Women's Handball Championship that will take place from May 31 to June 4.

In 1982 he began to savor the titles after being runner-up in the Canary Islands youth championship with the Club Deportivo Torrelavega playing in the sector in Tarragona. He was Champion of the Canary Islands of Second Division men's and third in the sector of promotion to First Division. In '83 he stopped playing and dedicated himself to arbitration for 18 years, ascending to first national and then arbitrated in first national B when the division of honor was created.

With the new century, in 2001, he hung up the whistle and started as coach of the First Division team of Club Balonmano Puerto del Carmen with which he achieved the classification to play two promotion phases. Since then, the list of achievements with the aurinegro club is long: Third of Spain with the women's children's team, Champions of the tournament that same season organized by "La 2" of RTVE called ESCUELA DEL DEPORTE. They were also third in Spain with the cadets and fourth in Spain with the Youth.

Later, they were champions of the Canary Islands and played the promotion phase to the first national team with the club's men's team and were runners-up in the Canary Islands of the first women's territorial team and qualified to play the promotion phase to the silver honor division.

Finally, it is also worth mentioning his work as helmsman of the different Canary Island teams. He obtained the Championship of Spain two consecutive years with the women's youth team and the runner-up of Spain with the cadet team. Finally, they were third in Spain with the women's children's team and fourth with the women's cadet team.

The board of directors of CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen, with its president, Félix Montelongo, at the head and on behalf of the entire club, players and fans, wants to congratulate the Tiñosero coach Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Santana after having been awarded the 2023 National Award granted by the Royal Spanish Handball Federation and whose award ceremony will take place on June 10 at the Santander Auditorium.

In short, an extensive career that has a few more decades of success with the inexhaustible quarry of CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen.
