The 26th Rallye de Tierra Isla de Los Volcanes-Trofeo Ciudad de Arrecife became one of the most exciting events in the history of Canarian motorsport. The two great candidates for victory, Yohan Rossel-Florian Barral and Yeray Lemes-Aitor Cambeiro, starred in a memorable battle from the first special to the last. Both of them pushed themselves beyond the limits in search of a triumph that ended up in the hands of the world championship couple.
Yohan Rossel and Florian Barral, the drivers, took the victory. Aboard a Citroën C3 Rally2, the Frenchmen, invited to the Lanzarote event by Club Deportivo Evesport, set the same pace as in their FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) commitments to beat the local idols. With tires that didn't work as they expected, Rossel-Barral managed to settle their trip to the Canary Islands with a result that allows them to enter the list of winners of the conejera round.
At the end of the last special, Rossel and Lemes congratulated each other for the weekend that each of them had marked, as did their respective co-drivers. Both agreed that this had been one of their toughest battles, enduring a pressure that did not cease until they crossed the finish banner of the 'Tinajo-Las Betancoras' timed section, which was responsible for deciding the winners of the event based in Arrecife.
Alexander Villanueva-José Murado finished third with a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 that remains at the head of the Spanish Gravel Rally Cup (CERT). Sebastián Franco-Diego Vallejo lost the podium position in which they had been running during the morning due to a puncture. While changing the damaged wheel, a rim got stuck. This setback also gave fourth place to Alejandro Mauro-Adrián Pérez and their Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 unit.
The top five was closed by Juan Carlos Quintana-Jonathan Hernández in their debut with the Ford Fiesta Rally2. The Canarian representatives of the CERT were progressing with the kilometers until they established themselves ahead of Xavier Vidales-Jordi Hereu, sixth with a Škoda Fabia R5. Oriol Gómez-Andrés Blanco finished seventh on another Ford Fiesta Rally2, while eighth place went to Javier Sosa-Javier Fragiel (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX).
The Italians Gabriele Campagnoli-Nicola Arena, sharing a cockpit in a Hyundai i20 N Rally2, reached a ninth position that becomes the best result of their sporting career. Walter Delgado-Rubén Fumero finished tenth with their Suzuki Swift R4LLY S Rally2-Kit. Gustavo Sosa-Alba Sánchez finished eleventh with a Škoda Fabia Rally2 Evo that dragged brake problems, while the fastest 2 Wheel Drive vehicle was the Renault Clio Rally4 of Manuel Jiménez-Ignacio de Paz, twelfth overall and winners within the Kumho Challenge, a section in which they remain unbeaten this season.
