María Alonso has won the European Jiu-jitsu Championship held from January 23 to 29 in the city of Paris, where the young woman from the south managed to reach the top of the podium in the white belt female rooster category at 48.5 kilograms, surpassing athletes from Brazil and Belgium.
The Yaiza City Council wanted to congratulate the athlete and highlights "the sporting performance of María Alonso, which represents a new joy for the municipality of Yaiza, which maintains its prominence with the presence of its athletes and the holding of sports events with a tourist impact," emphasizes the mayor, Óscar Noda.
María, who won in the final in the French capital by submission, triangle with arm lock, trains at the Mencey School of Playa Blanca, in such a way that the Institution praises "her short and successful career and also that of her training center directed by Isidoro Umpiérrez."
"I started training in October 2021, a year and three months ago, on December 19, 2021, and only a month and a half later I competed in the AJP Tour International in Barcelona, where I obtained a bronze in a category of five fighters, finishing the first by arm lock, losing the second by points and winning the third that gave me the bronze, also by arm lock submission," says the athlete, thus making clear her competitive spirit.
From there, competitions have been falling that are counted as victories. In the AJP Tour of Gran Canaria she won in her category; in April of last year she competed for the second time in Barcelona, where she won silver in kimono, with four athletes in the category, and gold in NoGi; that same 2022, in May, she debuted in the AJP Tour International in Madrid winning the final by triangle submission; last September she competed for the second time in the AJP of Gran Canaria, in NoGi, and won the final by submission, arm lock; while the last competition, before the European Championship in Paris, was in Valencia, the European Championship of the FIJJD, where she also won.
