Lionel Morales is proclaimed Spanish Paratriathlon Champion in Altafulla

The Spanish Paratriathlon Championship in Altafulla was one of Lionel Morales' major goals for the season. The paratriathlete from Lanzarote wanted to make up for what happened last year in Murcia and demonstrate that he is currently one of the best Spanish athletes in the PT2 category. With great concentration throughout the three segments, Lionel Morales dominated the Spanish Paratriathlon Championship from start to finish, crossing the finish line as the first classified and with a large difference compared to the rest of the participants.

The coastal town of Altafulla (Tarragona) hosts a new edition of the Spanish Triathlon Championship this weekend, with more than a thousand triathletes participating in the different events scheduled throughout the weekend. The Spanish Paratriathlon Championship was held on Saturday afternoon, with the participation of about 40 paratriathletes, including Lionel Morales. The paratriathlete from Lanzarote participated in the PT2 category, dominating all three segments.

The race started for Lionel Morales with very good sensations in the swimming segment, completing the 750-meter course in a time of 12 minutes and 40 seconds. Lionel came out of the water in second position in the PT2 category, losing just five seconds to Ander Romarate. It was in the cycling segment that Lionel Morales took the lead in the race and began to make a difference with respect to the rest of his rivals.

Throughout the week, Lionel Morales had mechanical problems with his bicycle, which had been solved by the company Más Deportes, one of the companies that are supporting Lionel Morales this season and whose professionals did a magnificent job. The paratriathlete from Lanzarote completed the 20 kilometers of the cycling segment in a time of 40 minutes and 18 seconds.

With a wide advantage over the rest of the competitors, Lionel Morales did not slow down his pace in the running race and was not satisfied until he crossed the finish line as the winner of the race. He completed the five kilometers of the running race with a time of 24 minutes and 14 seconds. Lionel Morales crossed the finish line as the winner of the PT2 category of the Spanish Championship, using a total time of 1 hour, 21 minutes and 45 seconds. He was more than 18 minutes ahead of the second classified, Ander Romarate (1:39:29), and third across the finish line was Luis Miguel González (1:44:14).

Lionel Morales is proclaimed Spanish Paratriathlon champion, redeeming himself from the incident he suffered last season in Murcia, which prevented him from finishing the race when he was in first position. The training has been intense throughout these last months, achieving one of the season's goals by far. There is no rest for Lionel Morales, with the paratriathlete from Lanzarote traveling to Canada to participate in the Edmonton ITU Paratriathlon World Events, an event that will be held next Saturday, September 5th.
