Lanzarote Zonzamas defeats Balonmano Gijón and remains leader

This season, Lanzarote Zonzamas has taken another step in its desire to improve, and an example of this is the fact of fighting each game as if it were the last, despite the inconveniences that may be encountered during the match, and that has led them to be the leader of the Women's Silver Division of Honor for another week.

This week's match, against Balonmano Gijón, was an intense clash, which began with a lot of equality but gradually tilted to the Lanzarote side, especially thanks to the intense defensive work, but also to the clarity that Juan Miguel Pérez's girls had in attack, gradually opening a gap on the scoreboard.

The participation of the international players Jailene Maldonado and Mariangeles de Uriarte, were a clear example of how much the team has grown, who with their experience accompanied their teammates on the court to reach the break with a 4-goal advantage, 18 to 14.

In the second half, the differences in the score were accentuated, with Nelida Valiente appearing in action, who saved a few chances to increase the score to seven goals, which was giving them more and more chances of winning.

Everything seemed to be controlled by the batateras team, but several mistakes in attack allowed the Asturians to mount counterattacks that ended inside the insular net, lowering that score to four goals.

It was one more incentive for Raúl Vallejo's players to increase the intensity and believe in their possibilities, and even more so when one of the referees insisted on making things easier, excluding three Lanzarote players in just over a minute in actions that were not problematic at all, but that served to leave the batateras in clear inferiority and allow the Gijón players to be one down on the scoreboard with 30 seconds left, with possession for them and a time-out requested by their coach.

The return to the court forced Lanzarote Zonzamas to give everything to avoid the tie, applying themselves intelligently in defense and taking the ball, managing to keep the two points at stake in Lanzarote.

The result allows CB Lanzarote Zonzamas to maintain the lead in group A of the Women's Silver Division of Honor, although it is an anecdotal position when only the first three days of the season have been played. The batateras visit Hand Vall Valladolid next week, a team that fell this week on the Cleba Rodríguez court (32-24)
