Tough journey that the 43 participating boats in the XXIII Canary Islands - Madeira International Regatta, organized jointly by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and the Clube Naval do Funchal, have had to make between Arrecife and Funchal. After nine o'clock on Thursday night, the first boats reached the finish line, completing the 294 nautical miles of the course. The “Lanzarote Sailing Paradise” of Ye Cabrera is proclaimed winner of one of the toughest editions of the Canary Islands - Madeira International Regatta.
Throughout Thursday afternoon the fight was intense to reach the coast of Funchal and take refuge from the harsh conditions that were encountered throughout the navigation. The “Lola Tres” of Rafael Lasso was the first to cross the finish line, and the boat of the CN Castillo del Águila invested a navigation time of 36 hours, 15 minutes and 10 seconds.
Almost an hour later, the “Sorondongo IV” of Miguel Ángel Armas arrived in the capital of Madeira, with the boat of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife investing 37 hours, 4 minutes and 38 seconds. The “Swing” of José Augusto Araujo was the third to reach the finish line, and throughout the morning the “Lanzarote Sailing Paradise” of Ye Cabrera, the “Muyay” of Aureliano Negrín, the “The Boss I” of Manuel Lorenzo Cabrera and the “Avanti Lanzarote“ of Pedro de Armas Bermúdez completed the course.
Once the classification was made with the compensated times, the “Lanzarote Sailing Paradise” of Ye Cabrera is proclaimed winner of the twenty-third edition of the Canary Islands - Madeira International Regatta. The boat of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife invested a time of 40 hours, 13 minutes and 4 seconds. It surpasses in compensated time the “Lola Tres” of Rafael Lasso by 45 minutes and 20 seconds, and the podium is completed with the third position of the “Muyay” of Aureliano Negrín.
Throughout the morning of this Friday, the Regatta Committee is waiting for the arrival of the entire fleet to Funchal, being in permanent contact with the participating boats and that these do not have any type of problem when completing the nearly 294 nautical miles that separate Arrecife from the capital of Madeira.
The XXIII Canary Islands - Madeira International Regatta is organized jointly by the Clube Naval do Funchal and the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, with the support of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, Portuguese Sailing Federation, Madeira Regional Sailing Association, the Royal Canary Sailing Federation, the Canary Association of Nautical Clubs and the Portuguese Navy, in addition to the support of Ports of Madeira, Marina do Funchal and Marina Lanzarote.
