The Lanzarote Raqueta Club recently traveled to the island of La Palma to participate in the TOP TTR Breña Alta, a tournament that counts towards the national ranking in the Under-17, Under-19, and Absolute categories, and did so with an outstanding performance that resulted in several podium finishes for the Lanzarote delegation.
The team, made up of seven players and two coaches, demonstrated a high competitive level in each of the categories played, leaving an excellent image of Lanzarote badminton in La Palma.
In the Under-17 category, Atenea Morales was proclaimed champion in the women's singles (IF) category, prevailing in the final against Alicia Baute, from the Tenzul El Rosario club. Meanwhile, in the men's singles (IM), Eduardo Curbelo won the silver medal after facing César Camejo from Majorera in the final, who maintained the lead throughout the match. In addition, Curbelo, together with his teammate Bruno Fernández, won another silver in men's doubles (DM), after a close match against Diego Pérez and Gerard Hernández from Tenerife.
In the Absolute B category, Daniel Martín won bronze in the men's singles (MS) after falling in a hard-fought semi-final against Ángel Castillo, from Tenerife, in a match that was decided in the third set. Martín returned to the podium with Daryl Lezcano, with whom he won the silver medal in men's doubles (MD), after playing an intense final against the pair formed by Jorge Sánchez from La Palma and José Miguel Sánchez from El Hierro, also decided in three sets.
In the Under-19 category, brothers Luis and Raúl Hernández won bronze in men's doubles (MD), after a hard-fought match against Tenerife natives Saúl Fuentes and Juan Gabriel González, which was decided by a narrow margin in the final stretch.
The Lanzarote Raqueta Club expedition was made up of the players Luis Hernández, Raúl Hernández, Bruno Fernández, Atenea Morales, Eduardo Curbelo, Daryl Lezcano, and Daniel Martín, accompanied by the instructors Inma Duarte and Aday Flores.
With this participation, the club not only adds valuable points to the ranking, but also continues to consolidate itself as a benchmark for badminton in the Canary Islands, firmly committed to the training and projection of its athletes.
