Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen was defeated this Saturday at the Florida Arena Municipal Sports Center in Asturias against Lobas Global Atac Oviedo (31-20) in a match corresponding to the third day of the Women's División de Honor Oro.
Second consecutive away defeat for the Tiñoseras in a match in which they held on until well into the first half (7-7, min. 15). The Asturians stepped on the gas and tightened up in defense, managing to go into halftime four goals ahead (15-11).
Lobas Global Atac Oviedo maintained their offensive rhythm after the restart. Puerto continued to fight, but the few opportunities they had were stopped by the local goal. As the clock ticked, the game became bogged down, with many fouls and exclusions that benefited Oviedo as they had a sufficient advantage. The distance achieved was going to be unattainable for the Tiñoseras, who saw how the locals extended their lead to reach a comfortable victory at the end of the match.
With this result, Lobas Global Atac Oviedo places itself as the undefeated leader with six points after three matches played. Only Uneatlántico Pereda and Bm. Ikasa Boadilla also maintain their defeat column at zero. For its part, the aurinegra squad places itself in tenth position with one victory and three defeats.
Lisa Chiagozie became the top scorer for the Asturians with six goals. The same figures were achieved by the Tías players Brenda Torres and Dely Leiva. Eleven local players scored compared to only seven among the visitors.
For the aurinegro coach, Jesús Casanova, it was "the typical away game and, in addition, conditioned by the absences of Mónica due to injury and Romina due to travel, which greatly influenced the outside shooting and our defense, forcing us to vary our defensive structure, forcing us to make more than one change of defense-attack or defend with a small player in the center. That greatly conditioned us and forced us to work very hard in defense to withstand the powerful players of stature, height, and weight that Oviedo has. For the first 20-25 minutes we held up well in the game, but from there the wear and tear on the players began to show and, little by little, Oviedo began to expose our shortcomings, which I insist are basically physical, of being able to withstand those clashes, those contacts from the rivals. The final result I think was too bulky against us, the punishment was harsh. But, on the other hand, nothing that we didn't think could happen. We know that we can do little against those teams and it is about getting up, continuing to work, and facing the next games with a few more options to win. I think we are leaving the strong teams behind and we have Zuazo left, but now we have to think about Pereda and try to change those problems we have.”
Jesús Casanova's squad will play their next match, corresponding to the fourth round of the Women's División de Honor Oro, on Saturday, October 25, at 6:00 p.m., with a visit to the Tías Municipal by Uneatlántico Pereda, a team that counts its three matches as victories.
