The competition will continue in the second event that will be held in S'Arenal from December 16 to 18

RCN Runner-up in the Spanish Sailing League 2022

The team “Lanzarote European Sports Destination” of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, occupies the second position of the Spanish Sailing League, after competing aboard the Platú 25 in the first round of regattas held in Altea.

This Monday 10 races were held in Altea, which added to the previous ones closed the championship with a total of 26 races. These regattas are very short (12-15 minutes) with tight windward-leeward courses and with a lot of intensity, making all the participating teams work to the maximum. Today the wind increased a little in intensity reaching 13 knots, while the first two days of competition the wind blew with very little intensity.

Those from Lanzarote did not start well and scored a 5th in their locker due to a penalty they had at the start. But then they recovered and in the other nine races without getting off the podium and with 3 partial victories. Results that allowed them to secure second place in the provisional classification, only 14 together from the RCN of Valencia that is placed as leader, while the third drawer of the podium goes to the RCN of Torrevieja with 10 points of difference with the Canaries. The fourth place is for the CN of Altea just two points away. Fifth have been the Catalans of CN El Balís, followed by the Mallorcans of CN Arenal in sixth position, and close the classification in seventh place the team of CN de Calpe.

The Spanish Sailing League is completed with the second event to be held at the CN S’Arenal from December 16 to 18. From there it will be known which are the two teams that will be able to defend the national flag in the European Sailing League to be held in 2023.

The team of “Lanzarote European Sports Destination” has once again opted for youth and the young Alberto Morales of only 19 years old will be the skipper of the team from Lanzarote and will be accompanied by Pedro de León (28), Eduardo Brito (17), Andrea Stinga (16) and Óscar Pattenden (19).

Eduardo Brito, bow of the “Lanzarote European Sports Destination” with only 17 years old gave his statements upon arrival at port: “It has been a pleasure and a pride to be part of the team of our club, surrounded by such good sailors. For me, who has premiered in this competition, it has been a very positive experience and this type of regatta is very interesting. Finishing this first event in second place is not bad considering the high level there was, but our team will return and we hope we can take the victory although it will not be easy at all.”
